“It was almost winter and Bear was getting sleepy. But first, Bear had a story to tell.” He wanders around the forest asking other animals if they would like to hear his story. The mouse has to gather seeds so Bear helps him get ready for hibernation. Duck is preparing to fly south for the winter so Bear waves him off. Frog needs to find a warm place to sleep for winter so Bear digs a hole and lines it with leaves. Bear yawns and wonders if Mole is awake. But Mole is already asleep. As snowflakes begin to fall, Bear goes to sleep. In the spring the Bear’s friends gather around and he finally gets to tell his story.
