Many children struggle with a lack of confidence. This may stem from doubt, identity, fitting in, disapproval and struggling to stand up for themselves. Sometimes children have outward signs of confidence but suffer from low self-esteem. Confident children are more likely to believe in their academic ability, take risks and make positive decisions. Picture books are a wonderful tool to encourage and foster confidence. Discuss characters who use confidence to stand their own ground and take appropriate risks.
