As winter approaches all the bears prepare to hibernate, but all Maurice can think about is experiencing spring for the first time. While his mother falls asleep Maurice ventures outside to discover spring. On his journey, he meets other animals preparing for winter who tell him he has to wait to see spring. As it starts to snow Maurice is convinced the falling snowflakes are spring and tries to grab one of the crystal flakes. “The crystal disappeared, but soon there was another. And another. And another! Maurice chased after them. Spring was hard to catch!” He chases the flakes and collects them in his sack before returning home. When he awakes months later, the crystals have disappeared but he finally witnesses the beauty of spring as he steps outside.
