“When the puppy came to live with Harry and Dad, he was as jumpy as a grasshopper. So, that’s what Harry called him, Hopper.” Harry and Hopper do everything together, including Harry helping the dog “run away from his weekly bath.” While Harry is at school Hopper’s sudden death leaves him devastated.

Harry becomes withdrawn and refuses to be part of Hoppers funeral. At night, Harry imagines Hopper returning as part of his grieving process. The two friends play together in the moonlit garden. Hopper returns for one final visit where Harry comforts his best friend and says goodbye.
