The narrator uses idioms to describe how his heart feels. “My heart is like a zoo… eager as a beaver… steady as a yak… silly as a seal… happy as a herd of hippos drinking apple juice… cozy as a clam…” On the final page, a young boy sleeps with all twenty toy animals watching over him.
