“Martha was cuckoo about birds. She knew every bird in the woods, behind her house.” That is until she saw a funny-looking bird she had never seen before. After much research, she discovered the bird was the extinct dodo! During the summer she found out that dodos weren’t great at playing snap and flying, but they loved eating doughnuts. She kept the dodo secret until she accidentally revealed, to the postman, she had discovered a dodo, who then made her secret public. “The next day, a huge crowd gathered outside Martha’s door. They were from the television, the newspapers, and the zoo.” They all wanted to know where the dodo was. Wanting to protect it from the attention quick thinking Martha pointed to her imaginary dodo. After the attention died down Martha was scared to visit the dodo in case someone saw her. The seasons changed and when Spring came round again, Martha searched for the dodo. She had no luck until she shook a bag of doughnuts. “And it seemed he’d been keeping a secret of his own. There was another dodo with him… and an egg!”
