Migrant by Maxine Trottier and Isabelle Arsenault is a great picture book to promote immigration, a sense of community and resilience
Migrant tells the story of Anna, a Mennonite who wears traditional clothing and speaks a German dialect. Her family travels from Mexico to Canada for seasonal work harvesting fruit and vegetables. Anna uses similes to describe her life, comparing herself to migratory birds and busy bees working in the fields. Like many migrants, Anna longs to be like a tree with permanent roots.
