Odd Dog Out by Rob Biddulph is a fun picture book that promotes acceptance, belonging, identity, perspective and self-esteem.
In a city full of sausage dogs that look alike and act alike “someone on this busy street is dancing to a different beat.” This dog feels like it doesn’t belong and journeys to find a place where she will. She travels for days and comes to Doggywood, a place where everyone looks like her. The odd dog finally fits in!
She sympathises with a dog who looks out of place but the dog’s response surprises her. “You’ve got it all wrong. I really feel like I belong. I love to stand out from the crowd! And so should you. Stand tall. Be proud!” Encouraged, the odd dog travels home to find everyone missed her and are expressing their own individuality. “You’ve made us all appreciate that being different is really great!”
