“Rocket loved books… When he opened a new book, it smelled like a place he’d never been to, like a friend he’d never met.” He loved words too and would sniff out new ones like buttercup, feather and nest. He would then practice writing and spelling the words he found. Rocket used the words to write a story. “My story will be an adventure about the great wide world.” But Rocket didn’t know how to start and stared at the blank piece of paper. He took a walk for inspiration and smelt pine needles and saw feathers.
Rocket started writing about the owl living in the nest in the pine tree. He was patient; editing his work and looking for more information to add to his story. He gently coaxed the shy owl out of the tree by reading the story. Their new friendship was sealed when Rocket let his new friend finish the story.
