A Stone for Sascha by Aaron Becker is a wordless picture book that promotes resilience, reflective and bereavement.

A girl grieves the loss of her dog Sascha in this wordless picture book. The family buried Sascha in the garden and the girl tearfully places flowers on the grave. The family goes on their annual summer holiday, but without Sascha, it won’t be the same. As the girl takes a walk along the beach, she comes across some beautiful, polished stones.

As she throws a stone into the ocean, it transports the reader back to when dinosaurs roamed the earth. A meteor hit the Earth which was later discovered by an early human. The illustrations follow the meteor rock through time as it is used as an obelisk, part of a Buddha statue and then a bridge all watched over by dogs. The reader then sees the girl pick up this meteor and place it on Sascha’s grave.
