The Storm Whale by Benji Davies is a touching picture book that promotes compassion, responsible decision-making and family.

While his father is away on his fishing boat, young Noi is left alone during the day. One day he finds a baby whale washed up on the beach and brings it home.

Noi shares stories with the whale, plays music and even shares his dinner. He knew that it wasn’t good for “a whale to be out of the water” and though he thinks his father will be angry he cares for the whale in the bathtub.

When Noi’s father comes home, he finds the whale in the tub and realises how lonely and isolated his son is. They return the whale to the sea and Noi’s father gives more attention to his son.
