Zot, an alien from a colourless world, watches Earth from his planet. The colour of the planet shining back convinces him that Earth must be a wonderful place to live. Zot visits to find his own happiness in its colour. “He had an idea. He would take the colour back to his planet… Zot opened his mouth and called out in a strange language. In reply, all the red soared through the air and into his open bag.” He continues until all the colours on Earth were in his bag. A small boy, with an orange balloon, catches Zot’s eye, and he takes the colour from the balloon. Zot takes off in his spaceship but has a change of heart when he sees the devastated child. “Carefully, gently, he returned all the beautiful colours to the boy’s world.”
