Traditional stories, including folktales, fairytales, fables, and myths and legends help children develop a love of reading. They also support an understanding of story characteristics, such as plot, settings and characters. They are great for teaching morals and character traits. Characters show courage, perseverance, trust and resilience, usually after being placed in a difficult situation or conflict. Traditional stories are wonderful for supporting an understanding of different cultures. They open children’s minds to different customs and tradition around the world. This collection includes tales from China, Japan, India, Bangladesh, Africa and the Middle East. Remember, some fairy tales are scary.
