Unicorn Thinks He’s Pretty Great by Bob Shea is a fun picture book to highlight jealousy, self-esteem, open-mindedness and perspectives.
Goat is feeling out of sorts since Unicorn moved into town. Goat’s cool bike suddenly looks dull when Unicorn flies to school. His marshmallow squares look boring when Unicorn makes it rain cupcakes. His magic trick becomes ordinary when Unicorn turns things into gold.
Jealous Goat thinks Unicorn is such a show-off. How can he compete? “Dopey Unicorn! Thinks he’s so great!” But when they share a slice of pizza Goat discovers being a unicorn is not all it’s cracked up to be. And Unicorn is jealous of Goat! “Whoa! What is up with your hooves? Those things are out of control!”
After showing appreciation for each other the new friends daydream about defeating evil with their ‘superpowers’.
