Muth retells three short Zen stories. A panda introduces himself as Stillwater to three siblings, Michael, Karl and Addy. Over the next few days, the three children visit the giant panda. He tells stories illustrating Zen Buddhism principles.
Addy hears the tale of Stillwater’s Uncle Ry who gave an unsuccessful robber his old tattered robe. Michael sits in a tree with the panda who tells a story of a farmer with good and bad luck. Finally, Stillwater tells Karl about the importance of forgiveness.
